Privacy

Route Forecast is a free app. The short version: there are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking cookies. Your routes and settings stay on your own phone or computer, and nothing is ever sold.

What stays on your device

These are stored only in your browser on your device. We don't keep a copy.

• Routes you open or save, and your recent routes
• Your settings, like start time, speed, activity, and units
• Your pace profile, if you ask the app to learn it from Strava
• Forecasts and map images saved so the app works without signal
• Your Strava sign-in, if you connect Strava

Routes and activities loaded from Strava, and the pace the app learns from your rides, are removed after 7 days, as Strava's rules require. Loading them again from Strava refreshes them.

To delete all of it, clear this site's data in your browser settings.

What's sent to other services to make the app work

• Weather: points along your route (rounded to a grid about 3 miles wide) go to Open-Meteo to get forecasts and air quality.
• Roads, water, and campsites: points along your route go to OpenStreetMap's Overpass servers (overpass-api.de, or a backup at overpass.kumi.systems) to look up surface, traffic, water stops, and campsites.
• Maps: map images are loaded from map providers, which see which area of the map you're viewing. Depending on the map style, that's Thunderforest, CyclOSM, OpenTopoMap, Esri, Waymarked Trails, or OpenSnowMap.
• Hosting: the site is hosted by Netlify, which may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running.

Anonymous usage counts

To learn how many people use the app and which features are useful, we count visits and feature taps (for example, "ride mode opened") with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly counter. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across sites, and never receives your routes, route names, or location.

Your location

The app only asks for your location when you use ride mode or "Riding weather where you are," and only with your permission. It's used in your browser to find your spot on the route or to get the weather near you, and the rounded coordinates go to Open-Meteo for the forecast. Your location is never stored or sent to us.

Strava

If you connect Strava, you sign in on Strava's own site. A small helper on our server swaps the sign-in code with Strava and passes your requests to Strava. It doesn't store your Strava data or sign-in details; those stay in your browser.

The app reads your name, routes, recent activities, and nearby segments, so it can load them and learn your pace. Your Strava data is shown only to you, is never shared or sold, and is never used to train or run AI. For the same reason, routes loaded from Strava can't be shared from the app as links or images.

Tapping Disconnect removes your Strava sign-in from the app and revokes its access. You can also revoke access anytime at strava.com/settings/apps.

Route Forecast is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Strava.

Tips

Tips are handled by Stripe. We only receive what Stripe shares about a payment, such as the amount and the email you give Stripe.

Children

Route Forecast isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
